Weekly Photo Challenge: Details

Picture of USS North Carolina Battleship Craw Space

One weekend jaunt during my time in Charlotte included a trip to Wilmington, North Carolina. My initial reaction to learning about the possibility of exploring the USS North Carolina Battleship was not too enthusiastic. Ships. War. Military. Ugh. Ugh. And… Ugh. Needless to say, it was fascinating. I’m glad to have also been there in February since the ship was slightly heated, but there is no AC in the summer. Anyone who’s spent time in the South knows what that is like. This crawl space in the bowels of the ship fits the details theme of this week’s photo challenge.

      • And imagine when they were doing it as their job! It’s one think when it’s there, we go through it for a few minutes while it sits in the harbor, and we’re off. Imagine going through storms at sea, muggy days and nights, little food. bathroom breaks… I could go on. I appreciate air conditioning, food, a soft place to sleep and all the comforts that our lives allow us. 🙂

  1. This was a great photo, Jeri! I always try to look at mysterious photos for just the capture itself before reading any descriptions. I was not sure at first which made the photo all the more intriguing! Have a great week! 🙂

  2. Have done the tour on the Mighty Missouri at Pearl Harbor. Oh yes to hot, but thankfully they have fans circulating. It truly is fascinating to tour one of these beasts. How did those men sleep in those narrow bunks?
